Halloween may be a few months away but the game developers at Electronic Arts introduced the spooky event several weeks early in "The Sims 4." A latest game patch added new decoration items, clothes, face paint choices and a new recipe to celebrate the upcoming "Day of the Dead."

The Mexican holiday "Day of the Dead" is a time for family members and friends to remember their departed loved ones. It is typically celebrated at the end of October, similar to the American holiday Halloween. In the latest "The Sims 4" game patch deployed on Sept. 27, Tuesday, Electronic Arts introduced several Halloween themed items to the base game.

The patch notes posted on "The Sims" forums stated that the new items were added to help Sim characters celebrate the "Day of the Dead" at a much earlier timeframe. Some of the new build and buy items include two new wall hangings that appears to be made of several colorful flower garlands and an etched flag. Colorful banners with depictions of skulls, as well as birds, were also added to the base game.

Game developers also patched in a small sculpture of a skeletal figure named the "Catrina Doll." Aside from the wall hangings, banners and sculpture, new candles with flower designs and a new table with floral accents were also incorporated into the game.

Players can also choose from several face paint designs to help Sim characters celebrate the Halloween holiday. The game's clothing collection even boasts of a few new fashion ensembles that contain interesting skull accents for both male and female characters.

In line with the "Day of the Dead" celebration, a new recipe was added to make Sim family gatherings more interesting. Sim characters with a cooking aspiration can try out the new holiday recipe for the dish named "Pan de Muerto."

Aside from the new Halloween themed content, the latest game patch did not contain fixes for game errors or bugs. It also did not offer potential details for the upcoming third expansion pack.

In other news, players will soon have the chance to participate in a "Day of the Dead" challenge where Sim characters will be tasked to complete a sugar skull collection The fansite Sims Community shared a series of in-game text strings that hinted of the upcoming event. However, Electronic Arts have yet to announce the said holiday theme challenge.
