Girls Generation and Bigbang were identified as the most legendary female and male idol groups in Kpop history. The two South Korean bands were chosen by a panel of 30 industry experts in the Korean music scene.

Among 25 South Korean groups, Girls Generation and Bigbang both landed at the top spot of a survey that consisted of a panel of industry experts, music critics and producers. The said panel was asked to rank the most influential Kpop idol groups from the 1990s until the current music scene. The survey results were unveiled on the Korean online community Instiz.

Bigbang nabbed the top spot in the male Kpop idol group category with 25 votes from the 30 member panel. Veteran South Korean band H.O.T., as well as TVXQ, both landed at second place with 13 votes. Shinee came in at third place, followed by god, EXO and Shinhwa. The Kpop groups Super Junior, INFINITE, Sechs Kies are all tied at seventh place while BTS secured the eighth spot.

For the female Kpop idol group category, the panel of music industry experts gave Girls Generation 21 votes that secured the girl group's top spot in the survey. Wonder Girls came in at second place with 16 votes, followed by 2NE1 with 11 votes.

The group S.E.S that rose to fame in the late 1990s nabbed the fourth spot, followed by BoA and f(x) who are both tied at number five. The performers fin.K.L, TWICE, Kara and IU secured the sixth to ninth spots, respectively. Baby V.O.X., SISTAR, G-FRIEND and Hyuna all landed at tenth place.

Two songs from Girls Generation and Bigbang were also identified as the most influential tracks in Kpop history, according to the 30 member panel. Bigbang's "Lies" was voted as the most legendary song from a male Kpop idol group while Girls Generation's hit track "Gee" received a similar honor.

In other news, Bigbang is set to release a new album by the end of the year. YG Entertainment confirmed the Kpop idol's new album release in a statement posted on the entertainment company's official website.

Members of the said Korean boy band have been hard at work recording new tracks for the upcoming album. YG Entertainment even teased that Bigbang is nearly at the final stages of the recording process. However, the entertainment company have yet to disclose the exact release date for Bigbang's new album.
