Another entertainment awards-giving body will have an event on Friday Night, Oct. 7, just six days after the 2016 APAN Awards. Similar to the Sunday event, “Descendants of the Sun” actor Song Joong-ki is a nominee again for the Grand Excellence Award (Daesang) at the 2016 Korea Drama Awards.
According to Soompi, his competitors for the award are Kim So Yeon of “Happy Home,” Kim Rae Won of “Doctors” ad Park Shin Yang of “Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul Ho.” Given that 2016 seems to be the year of the 31-year-old actor, he likely has high chances of achieving a grand slam.
Past winners of the Daesang were Kim Soo-hyun in 2015 for “The Producers” and 2014 for “My Love from the Star,” Lee Bo-young in 2013 for “I Can Hear Your Voice, My Daughter Seo-yung” and Kim Nam-joo in 2012 for “My Husband Got a Family.”
But it is not just Song Joong-ki who is a nominee. “Descendants of the Sun” is also a nominee for Best Drama and Kim Eun Sook for Best Writer. Noticeably, “Descendants of the Sun” actress Song Hye Kyo is not a nominee for Best Actress which could again be perceived by her fans as another snub like what happened at the APAN Awards.
Chances of Song Hye Kyo also making an appearance is slim because she seems to be still in Europe, based on her Instagram posts, and she is not a nominee.
Here are the nominees for the other awards:
• Best Actor, Top Excellence Award - Jang Hyun Sung (“Doctors”), Ahn Jae Hyun “Cinderella and Four Knights”), Yoo Seung Ho (“Remember”) and So Ji Sub (“Oh My Venus“)
• Best Actress, Top Excellence Award – Park Shin Hye )”Doctors”), Baek Jin Hee (“My Daughter, Geum Sa Wol”), Kim Hyun Joo (“I Have a Lover”) and Seo Hyun Jin (“Another Oh Hae Young”)
• Best Drama – “Descendants of the Sun” (KBS2), “Six Flying Dragons” (SBS), “Doctors” (SBS) and “Signal” (tvN)
• Best Drama Writer – No Hee Kyung (“Dear My Friends”), Kim Eun Hee (“Signal”), Kim Eun Sook (“Descendants of the Sun”) and Kim Tae Hee (“Beautiful Mind”).
There are 11 categories which means there would be more excellence, rookie, OST and other awards, reported K-Drama Amino. The award ceremony is held yearly in Jinju, South Gyeongsong Province.
