"Scarlet Heart Ryeo" actress IU may be in danger of losing her "soju goddess" status given Suzy's latest promotional model contract. Recently, the Miss A singer signed a deal to become the brand ambassador for a competitor soju company.
IU has been considered as the "soju goddess" given her appearance in a famous soju brand's various promotional ads. Soju is considered South Korea's hard liquor that can be compared to a milder version of vodka. Many Korean dramas have featured scenes where characters would drink shots of the said clear liquid in parties or small gatherings.
Since December 2014, the "Scarlet Heart Ryeo" cast member has been the official brand model of Hite Jinro's Chamisul soju. An initial one-year promotional model contract turned into a longer deal due to the musician's popularity.
However, Miss A group member Suzy is set to go head-to-head with the Kpop singer given her recent deal with competitor brand, Lotte Chilsung Liquor. The "Uncontrollably Fond" actress signed a contract to promote the said brand's Chum Churum soju, according to Korea Herald.
Avid fans can expect to see Suzy in new TV commercials and print ads to promote Lotte Chilsung Liquor's soju brand. At this time, it is still unclear if the Miss A group member will surpass IU's popularity as a soju brand model.
Recently, Suzy's agency JYP Entertainment denied reports of the Miss A member's rumored solo music debut. Rumors hinted of the Kpop idol's speculated solo music career including an alleged solo album release.
However, the entertainment agency told local reporters in late September that it has no concrete plans to launch Suzy's solo music career, according to Korean news outlet Joins. However, JYP Entertainment admitted that it has explored the said possibility as a potential future career move for the singer.
Details of Miss A's upcoming activities as well as Suzy's new projects have yet to be revealed. The singer last appeared in the KBS drama "Uncontrollably Fond" where she portrayed a debt-ridden documentary director.
