Werder Bremen began the new season on a four-game losing spell before they managed to stay undefeated in the last two rounds of competitions.

Coming off a 2-1 win over perennial contenders Wolfsburg in round 5, Die Werderaner then settled for a 2-2 tie with SV Darmstadt 98 at the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Böllenfalltor on Oct. 1 to climb out of the relegation zone for the first time in this term, as per the league's official website.

Croatian forward Antonio Colak scored the opening goal of the game with a spot kick in the 19th minute to give the hosts a one-point lead at the break.

Bremen found the equalizer six minutes after the restart with a goal from Senegalese defender Lamine Sane.

Head coach Alexander Nouri's was then able to grab the lead in the 67th minute with a right-footed shot from the right side of the box from 21-year-old winger Serge Gnabry.

However, Colak netted his second goal of the contest at the 73rd to level the count once more as both teams settled for the draw.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen pulled off a stunning 2-0 win over powerhouse team Borussia Dortmund at the BayArena also on Oct. 1, Daily Mail Online reported.

Swiss striker Admir Mehmedi scored the opening goal in the 10th minute with close-range header off an assist by Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu following a corner kick.

Bayer continued to dominate the hapless Borussians, who seemed to be not in their element, for most of the match.

Mexican striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez doubled the lead in the 79th minute, again from a cross by Calhanoglu, to seal the win for Leverkusen.
