"The Vampire Diaries" is set to return on March 12 with Episode 16 of Season 6. The episode titled "The Downward Spiral" showcases Damon receiving shocking news about his mother. Also, Ian Somerhalder talks about his character.

According to TV Guide's synopsis for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6, Episode 16, Caroline is set to give an "unexpected ultimatum" to her pals. Stefan's interference starts a chain of events that can serve to be dangerous.
Elsewhere, Damon finds out shocking news and it is related to his mother. Bonnie is in the real world and she is already struggling. Enzo is fascinated by Sarah Salvatore.
Ian Somerhalder talked about his cast and character as "The Vampire Diaries" return with more Season 6 episodes.
"I had an incredible story that Brian Young and Caroline Dries wrote. And literally a group of my - my cast - my brothers and sisters, everyone had my back," Ian said (via Christian Post).
"It was the coolest environment to learn in, and thank you Warner Bros for the couple million bucks to spend really creating an incredible 42 minutes of television. It was my favorite professional experience ever."
In the new "The Vampire Diaries" episode, Damon looks for answers from Kai about the prison world and this is when she learns not-so-happy news about her mother Lily.
