Sony is close to launching the PlayStation 4 Pro and the new console's features and mechanics are not exactly clear yet but the company does want to clear things up.
The PlayStation 4 Pro could have an effect on the current PS4 market considering that the former will still be able to play games without any need for special patches. It will also be more powerful but there are no exclusive games, yet.
Sony is also releasing the PlayStation VR and its fate with the PS4 Pro is also unclear. There is no guarantee that it would run better on the new console but that would make it unfair for the current PS4 owners.
Chief PlayStation Architect from Sony Mark Cerny told The Verge that the PS4 Pro will be 2.28 times more powerful than the original PlayStation 4 thanks to a second identical GPU. The PS4 Pro will effectively churn out 4.2 teraflops compared to the PlayStation 4's 1.8 teraflops.
One thing that the PlayStation 4 Pro will be known for is its capability to run some games in native 4K resolution. The market is not huge yet but Sony seems to be betting big on their new console.
However, the caveat is that it is not entirely a true 4K resolution considering that the PS4 Pro will only be using a technique called checkerboard rendering to scale it up to 2160p even without effectively making the assets with higher resolution.
Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro will be powered by the AMD Jaguar octa-core processor clocked at 2.1GHz with 8GB+1GB GDDR5 DRAM, Gamespot reported. It will have 1TB for the storage but with a mechanical hard disk instead of the faster solid-state drive.
Cerny said that PS4 Pro exclusives could be possible in the future when the PS4 is no longer capable of handling the resources for newer games. That goes against their earlier statements saying that there will be no PlayStation 4 Pro exclusives at all.
Sony will be releasing the PS4 Pro on November 10 for $399. There is no word yet on PSVR and PS4 Pro bundles or even game bundles.
