Microsoft has hinted that the highly-anticipated Xbox One Scorpio console is undergoing "amazing progress." Thanks to the heads-up, Xbox fans are expected to see Scorpio arrive sooner than expected.

In an interview with Game Spot, Microsoft's Phil Spencer openly disclosed that the development of the new Xbox console is already ahead of its schedule. Apparently, Microsoft is already far steps ahead with project Scorpio, even surpassing its own expected progress achievements.

When asked if the console would have an earlier launch date by one of his followers on Twitter, Spencer said that he was in a review with the Scorpio team to ascertain where exactly the project had reached. He also complemented his statement by saying that he was satisfied by the progress of the program.

According to his revelations, the teams working on Xbox Scorpio are very attentive to detail so as to match its capabilities with the exact level of performance expected. In fact, after his team went through some high-level specs at E3, it gave its members time to ensure that they targeted the highest performance possible.

Unfortunately, Microsoft did not mention Xbox Scorpio during its Oct. 26 Windows 10 event. So there is no much information about it out yet.

In the meantime, Xbox Scorpio is being touted as the most powerful console ever made, according to Gaming Bolt. It boasts 6 teraflops of GPU, which will support virtual reality and 4k gaming.

Its predecessor is the "robot white" Xbox One S, which exhibits a 40 percent slimmer new design compared to the original Xbox One. It also harbors an internal power supply with 4k Ultra HD support for Blu-ray disks, along with Amazon and Netflix content.

Some tech enthusiasts are already comparing Xbox Scorpio with its rival PS4 Pro, claiming that the latter's 4.2 teraflops will not be enough to handle true 4K. Even that being the case, the gaming fraternity still hopes to see some competition between the two consoles, especially because PS4 Pro is expected to come with a cheaper price tag.

If Microsoft does not alter the original release date, gamers will get their hands on Xbox Scorpio in late 2017. Here are the expected specs:
