Nostalrius recently announced that they will be giving their source code for "World of Warcraft" Legacy project to Elysium. The move was brought about by Blizzard's silence on working on the project after Nostalrius reached out to the company several times.
In a blog posted by the Nostalrius administrator, it provided details as to how the transfer would proceed. They narrated how they tried to communicate with Blizzard since they were having high expectations from the company back then.
When they had an initial meeting, the administrator recalled they have always tried to reach out with the American video game developer and its WoW team regarding the issues raised during their first assembly. They also had the intention to speed up the process of an official release.
"Trust us, we were ready to work like hell on that, even more than before in order to help WoW team. But we never received any response to these questions, even after 4 months," the administrator said.
He even added that they tried to fix the issues by working on with the studies, cost analysis, schedules, milestones and other matters. They also worked on the remaining problems they had all on a volunteer basis because they wanted the official release to be possible.
Knowing that a single WoW team member would not be able to get his hands on the project, they did it themselves in order to nullify its impact to the team. But to their dismay, people from Nostalrius did not received any response from Blizzard regarding their proposals.
With this, the Nostralrius team decided to give all their assets for the Legacy to another team, the Elysium. According to the author of the blog post, they believe Elysium is the one they believe to be the most in line with their core values.
Meanwhile, Blizzard released a statement that they are taking the Legacy project seriously, IGN reported, contrary to what Nostalrius believe after being left unanswered by the entertainment company.
According to WoW game director Ion Hazzikostas, "it's still something that we're discussing internally," but the hold up has been "more of a 'can we, should we, how would we, how do do we?' And where does that lead to in the end?"
