Argentina is sliding down the standings at the moment as they had been winless in their last four matches in the World Cup qualifiers. They are currently in the sixth spot of the 10-team CONMEBOL table and would not qualify to the Russia games if the tournament would end today.

Argentina was routed by Brazil, 0-3, on the road last Thursday at the Mineirão in Belo Horizonte during their matchday 11 affair, as per the Mirror.

Lionel Messi faced his Barcelona teammate and fellow superstar Neymar during the match and was goalless in the whole 90-minute encounter.

Neymar got the better of his more illustrious teammate as he assisted on Philippe Coutinho's opening goal in the 25th minute before netting his own in the first half injury time to give the Canarinho a 2-0 halftime lead.

The hosts added another one in the 59th minute with a goal from Guangzhou Evergrande midfielder Paulinho with the assist this time coming from fellow Chinese Super League standout Renato Augusto of Beijing Guoan.

Meanwhile, Colombia was held to a goalless draw by struggling team Chile at their own home ground of Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla also last Thursday, Goal reported.

It was the second straight tied game by Los Cafeteros and the third winless match in their last four outings, making them drop to the third spot in the overall standings. Colombia is only one point ahead of fourth-running team Ecuador and five points behind second-place team Uruguay.

James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao appeared in the game versus Chile but Carlos Bacca was rested.
