A lot of "Sherlock" patrons are waiting for its air date on January 1, 2017. The fourth season of the crime drama series will reportedly reveal Thatcher, Smith and Sherrinford.

The return of Sherlock Holmes will involve strings of good bad news due to major plot twists in the story, News Everyday has learned. Benedict Cumberbatch has said that "Sherlock" Season 4 will not be the last but the bad news is that there might be a much longer hiatus before Season 5 due to his involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as "Doctor Strange."

Fans should expect that there will be a lot more to discover in the new season of "Sherlock." It took several years before Season 3 was aired and another year or so for the special to air as well. In 2015, the 90-minute Sherlock special episode "The Abominable Bride" was an achievement but it only left fans wanting more of the crime sleuth.

Creators of "Sherlock" Season 4 Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss gave fans a clue that Thatcher, Smith and Sherrinford will be the themes for the upcoming three-episodes fourth season, University Herald reported. It might also mean Sherlock and Irene Adler (Lara Pulver) will finally be reunited on screen with their twisted love affair.

Additionally, Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) writes the Thatcher story in his official blog which could be considered as a bonus for the show itself. Some believe that the story will be simple but "Sherlock" fans know better to expect that there will be more twists especially now as Moriarty has come back to haunt the protagonist.

This could be credited to the upcoming of Culverton Smith (Toby Jones), whose character in the book tries to poison Sherlock with the use of tropical diseases. Also, Sherrinford Holmes may also make an appearance and lay truth to Mycroft's bursts referring "to the other one" which pertains to a long-lost sibling.

Tom Hiddleston is alleged to play the part in the upcoming "Sherlock" Season 4 after being seen posing with Gatiss in the San Diego Comic Con. Gatiss then posted the picture on a social networking site with the caption "blud," a word Sherlock used for Mycroft.
