Furthermore, Benedict Cumberbatch has indirectly stated the bad news during his past interview with GQ magazine for its November issue. It can be remembered that assumptions about the show coming to its end started when the lead actor talked about an "end of an era" in his GQ interview, iTech Post reported.

Cumberbatch also confessed in another interview that the crime drama series already stretch to the point where it will be challenging to come up with a sequel after the finale of Season 4. Though the lead actor already addressed the confusion, the recently publicized title of "Sherlock" Season 4, episode 2 based on the series' official trailer has re-ignited the rumor.

The episode 2 is entitled "The Lying Detective" which is reportedly had adapted the story of "The Dying Detective" which is another piece written by Arthur Conan Doyle. The summary of this episode showed that Sherlock will persuade everyone that he is dying. With this, it is then predicted to be a good turning point for the series to mark its ending.

Aside from that, recent reports also suggest that Steven Moffat admitted that the upcoming season could be the final one. Moffat stated that "I don't know how long we can keep it going. I'm personally willing but I'm hardly the main draw.” He also added that “I would be moderately surprised if this was the last time we ever made this show. But it absolutely could be”.

Whether "Sherlock" Season 4 might be the last of the series it is still to be confirmed by BBC. Nonetheless, the crime drama series will start to air on January 1 next year.
