Last week, it was revealed that Marvel had dropped its plans to make a film adaptation of "The Inhumans" and was developing a TV series instead. It has now been confirmed that the first couple of episodes of the series will get an IMAX release.

Disney-owned ABC announced on that the first two episodes of the series will be screened across 1,000 IMAX theaters in 74 countries for two weeks starting Labor Day 2017 (Sept. 4). The remaining episodes will air on ABC as part of its fall lineup as scheduled.

This is the first time that a television series will make its debut on the big screen. The last two episodes from the fourth season of HBO's "Game of Thrones" were also screened in IMAX theaters last year. "We think this is a quadruple win - a win for Imax, a win for Marvel, a win for ABC Studios and a win for ABC to launch a show in an innovative way and get attention," Disney-ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

The first two episodes will be shot using IMAX cameras along with certain action scenes, some of which are set on the moon. IMAX is reportedly financing the first two episodes, thereby reducing the overall cost of production and making the deal more attractive to producers ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

The eight-episode series revolves around a team of superhumans, each of whom has a special set of superpowers with a special focus on Black Bolt and members of the Royal Family, according to IGN. Even though the Inhumans have made an appearance on "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D," it will not be a spin-off of the Marvel series.

There are rumors that Vin Diesel has been pegged to play the role of Black Bolt in "The Inhumans" TV series as he was reported to play the leader of the Inhumans in Marvel's film adaptation. However, director James Gun shut down the reports by saying that unless the "Fast and Furious" actor take a huge pay cut, it is unlikely that he will be a part of "The Inhumans" series.
