The Minnesota Timberwolves have three 21-year-olds who are averaging 20 points per game but the young squad has not translated expectations to reality. Recently, there have been reports of the TWolves looking for help in the frontcourt.
In ESPN's TrueHoop podcast, veteran NBA reporter Brian Windhorst said that Minnesota is looking for help from other NBA teams for a boost in the frontcourt, even if they have young wings and bigs in Gorgui Dieng, Karl Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins and Shabazz Muhammad.
Towns, Wiggins and high leaper Zach Lavine, who are all just 21 years old, are all averaging more than 20 points a game but their success individually have not translated to the success of the team as they reside at 14th place in the packed Western Conference with just seven wins in 25 outings.
According to Justin Rowan of Fox Sports, acquiring Luol Deng would bring the veteran presence and defense the TWolves need. Minnesota is 27th in the league when it comes to efficiency and Deng's possible acquisition would help since he is a former All-Defensive Second Team way back in 2012. Also, Deng and Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau have a lot of history when they were with the Chicago Bulls together.
All players from the Timberwolves roster are not more than 30 years old, expect for 34-year-old John Lucas III, and they have a few years to finally realize what is expected from them. Minnesota's starting five of Towns, Lavine, Dieng, Wiggins and Spaniard Ricky Rubio looks good on paper but it lacks the experience and the cohesion to compete with the best of the Western Conference, especially with the retirement of vocal leader and NBA champion and MVP Kevin Garnett.
Adding a veteran who could bolster the team's morale and confidence would be a great plus to turn around Minnesota's woeful season.
