The WWE is starting to make plans for WrestleMania 33 and it might not be well-received by many fans. One of the rumored plans for the big spectacle next year is Roman Reigns coming in as the WWE Universal Champion.

As recapped by WWE.com, Reigns is set to face Kevin Owens at the 2017 Royal Rumble in January for the Universal title. Chris Jericho cannot interfere in the match since he will be locked up in a shark cage hanging above the ring.

The fear of many diehard WWE fans could become a reality as Reigns is now poised to win the Universal championship at the Royal Rumble. The budding feud between Owens and Jericho does not need a title to make it relevant.

The two "friends" are possibly heading for a match at WrestleMania 33. On the other hand, Reigns has proven that he can thrive in a demoted role that is why the WWE has brought him back to the main event scene.

Another sign why The Big Dog could be winning the Universal championship is he is not scheduled to take part in the Royal Rumble Match, per Cageside Seats. It is either he wins the title against Owens or he gets taken out by someone, possibly Braun Strowman, who attacked Reigns and Seth Rollins to end this week's Raw.

However, it should be noted that these are just purely speculative at the moment. The WWE tends to change their plans on a regular basis and there are a lot of different directions they can go to at WrestleMania 33.

In a recent episode of The Wrestling Observer Radio (subscription required), Dave Meltzer revealed that if Reigns wins the Universal title, Strowman could win the Rumble Match and they headline the big event in Orlando next year.

"If Roman Reigns wins the Universal Championship, it's possible that Braun Strowman will win the Royal Rumble. Yeah, it is possible," Meltzer said.

Meltzer is also the one who reported a couple of weeks ago that Vince McMahon is looking to put Reigns against Strowman for the U.S. Title. But now, the WWE Chairman might have realized that Owens and Jericho do not need the Universal championship in their feud.

Nevertheless, the WWE has a lot of options going into WrestleMania 33. Would you like to see Reigns win the Universal Championship? Who do you want to see main event WrestleMania 33? For more WWE news, rumors and updates, just follow me on Twitter @johnnyrundown.
