Chrysler estimated around 703,000 units of minivans and SUVs were recalled and was sent back to their repair shop to repair the defective ignition switches, UPI reported.
The car manufacturer has already issued a statement for the affected Chrysler minivans and SUV owners to take out everything on the key ring but the ignition key until the issue is addressed. With ignition issue will and make the engine to shut off without warning taking out the power steering, brakes and airbags.
According to USA Today, the issue might be present for Chrysler's following make, Dodge Journey SUVs and Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Caravan minivans from the 2008 through 2010 model years, but test are still in place to fully determine if the following makes were also affected.
A Chrysler representative commented that the multi-billion car manufacturer will replace the defective switches, and the parts are now being manufactured and but won't be available anytime soon due to the magnitude of its effect and the earliest that the Chrysler is eyeing is on April.
Chrysler wasn't the only car manufacturer that has experienced the same defect, another car giant General Motors has recalled 2.6 million small cars in 2014. Previous reports has confirmed that the GM defective switches has claimed 57 lives and has put 90 people in the hospitals from minor to major injuries.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had been investigating the Chrysler cars involved in the issue in June 2014, shortly after the GM ignition defects has presented itself. So far, Chrysler has received 89 complaints about the switches with a lone accident report but no injuries.
