"Scarlet Heart: Goryeo" recently suffered an attack from hackers on Instagram. On Dec. 20, the actor's personal act was infiltrated by hackers that posted ads for an illegal prostitution website on his feed.
The Kang Ha Neul Instagram hack saw the actor's personal page filled with advertisements for prostitution services. The actor was quick to take action and delete the photos. He then issued an apology for causing an inconvenience to fans and exposing them to inappropriate content.
As translated by Koreaboo, Kang Ha Neul wrote that he is curious as to how hackers managed to figure out his password. Despite the experience being alarming, the actor nevertheless found the experience interesting.
He added a word of caution to fans, reminding them to take of their passwords. He also advised against choosing the "change later" when a "change your password" pop-up appears.
The incident is one of the many in which South Korean celebrities' social media accounts are compromised by hackers. Sometimes, the hackers are fans attempting to get hold of secret information about the stars such as contact numbers, their relationships and the like.
In May this year, Girls Generation leader Taeyeon also informed fans that someone was trying to change the settings to her Instagram account. As reported by Teen Vogue, Taeyeon was surprised to find out that pictures were suddenly uploaded to his account without her own doing. She added that she disabled automatic adding, meaning there's no way a fan could tag her in a photo without her consent. She was also receiving text messages requesting for her Instagram password.
Also, G-Dragon's private Instagram account was hacked in September. The private account was set to public by the hacker, exposing several photos of the singer with his rumored girlfriend and Japanese model Komatsu Nana. G-Dragon's private account has since been deleted.
EXO's Sehun also warned fans who tried to invade his personal space by hacking his social media accounts. Baekhyun's Instagram was also reportedly hacked by an international fan who claimed to have uploaded a video of the whole ordeal online.
