Lucasfilm and Disney XD's "Star Wars Rebels" will be back in early 2017 to air the remaining episodes of its ongoing third season. Reports are suggesting that continuation of the CGI series will feature the return of a very familiar character that was seen in the spinoff film "Rogue One."

It is said that the resistance fighter, Saw Gerrera will be back to the franchise's animated version as he is slated to help Ezra Bridger and the rest of his crew in crippling the ever expanding Galactic Empire. Highly decorated actor Forest Whitaker who portrayed the said character in "Rogue One" will be tapped once again to give voice to Saw's animated version in "Rebels" that will resume in 2017, Epic Stream reported.

Whitaker even posted a tweet confirming his participation in the animated series. He also expressed his excitement about his upcoming role in the animated series.

In addition, this will be the first time that Saw will be gracing "Rebels" which was first seen in "Star Wars Clone Wars." He will be reintroduced on "Rebels'" "Ghost of Geonosis" episode which will be a two-part special that set to premiere on Jan. 7, 2017, MovieWeb has learned.

The continuation of "Rebels" will feature a younger Saw as the events of the show took place between the timelines of the third and fourth "Star Wars" films. However, Saw was killed off in the recent film as the Empire blew off the desert moon Jedha that served as a haven for Force believers.

Saw also became an apprentice under the tutelage of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ashoka Tano, and even Anakin Skywalker. In addition, he also served as one of the forerunners in the formation of the Rebel Alliance that has been thwarting the Empire's plans.
