Avid viewers of the long-running Fox crime drama "Bones" will soon see several familiar faces returning to the series. Eddie McClintok is set to reprise his role as Brennan's (Emily Deschanel) ex, FBI agent Tim Sullivan, also known as Sully.
"Bones" will cap off its 12-season run with a final season that will feature exciting plotlines, including the return of some of the Fox series' fan-favorite characters. FBI agent Sully will appear in an upcoming episode to wreak havoc on Brennan and Booth's (David Boreanaz) relationship.
In a recent interview with TVLine, showrunner Michael Peterson teased that Sully's return will happen during a tense period in the couple's life. With the Jeffersonian forensic anthropologist and Booth going through a difficult stage in their relationship, Brennan will become "emotionally unbalanced."
Sully may try to take advantage of Brennan's confused state and her marital problems. The FBI agent's reappearance will also impact the couple's relationship in upcoming episodes.
Peterson stated, "It's a strange time for this love from the past to show up. And it's going to have some slight reverberations."
Brennan's former beau was last seen in "Bones" Season 2 where Sully and the Jefferson anthropologist stated dating but their relationship did not last. Meanwhile, viewers can expect to see Sully towards the second half of Season 12.
In other news, a preview clip exclusively released to Entertainment Weekly featured a first look at Brennan after she was captured by former Jeffersonian intern Zack (Eric Millegan). After waking up and realizing that Zack abducted her, Brennan tries to convince her former assistant to let her go.
Despite trying to stand up, Brennan feels a bit dizzy and it is only then Zack reveals that he injected her with a drug that knocked her unconscious for two hours. Brennan continues to plead with Zack to set her free, even mentioning how Booth will come to find them soon if he does not let her go.
However, Zack has other plans for his former mentor. He tells Brennan menacingly, "Dr. Brennan, I know you're used to me being your assistant, always telling me what to do. Today, the shoe is on the other foot."
"Bones" Season 12 will premiere on Jan. 3, 2017 on Fox. Watch a teaser clip below:
