"Sherlock" Season 3 ended with a cliffhanger, teasing the potential return of the villain Moriarty (Andrew Scott), who was presumed dead since the Season 2 finale. Season 4 will address this plot twist and the BBC have released a brand new promo further teasing Moriarty's return.

The video was shared on Facebook and showcases Piccadilly Circus in London. One of the large screens normally used for displaying advertisements flicks and shows Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) and Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) sitting in their living room.

Moriarty's face is then shown along with the words "Miss me?" It is still uncertain if this means the villain managed to survive his death in Season 2.It is also possible that the Season 4 villain, Culverton Smith (Toby Jones), is merely using Moriarty's image as part of his attack on Sherlock, according to The Sun.

In the original story "Adventures of the Dying Detective" by Conan Doyle, Smith attempted to murder Sherlock by administering poison. Sherlock faked his condition and got the villain to confess his crimes, including multiple murders, and this led to Sherlock and Watson successfully apprehending him.

However, the series has taken liberties with its adaptation of the original stories. Smith has been described by the BBC as the darkest villain the show's history and Season 4 will see the villain do more than just try to poison Sherlock, Screen Rant reported.

"Sherlock" Season 4 will bring the series full circle and that it will focus on Sherlock facing the consequences of his actions since Season 1. Watson and his wife will also be having a child and there are rumors of the third Sherlock brother, Sherrinford, making an appearance.

For the first time, "Sherlock" Season 4 will premiere simultaneously in the United States and in the United Kingdom. The show will release on Jan. 1, 2017. The full trailer for Season 4 can be viewed below:
