Although "Prey" was first released in 2006 as a first-person shooter game, the upcoming 2017 version will not be a sequel of the original game. Confirmed for a release in spring 2017, "Prey" is expected to feature a new protagonist who will try to deal with a space station full of aliens.

In 2006, "Prey" featured Domasi Tawodi as its protagonist who tried to save his grandmother and girlfriend when they were abducted by aliens inside a spaceship. Developers planned a scheduled sequel for the game because it was being well-received, according to Eastern Daily. Things started to change when the game's IP shifted from Human Head Studios to Bethseda Softworks.

Instead of a sequel, Arkane Studios and Bethseda rebooted the franchise and introduced a new protagonist in the person of Morgan Yu, the report added. Although the production initially had a new title for the reboot, they decided to retain "Prey" as its title since the story revolves around a guy being chased by aliens in a confined space.

Arkane also wanted the new "Prey" to be seen as a re-imagining version of the original game rather than a sequel or remake, Den of Geek has learned. The developer plans to incorporate their trademark elements but also retain the iconic ones from the original.

In a gameplay trailer released by Arkane Studios during the Game Awards 2016, the alien enemies which are made up of black tendrils were introduced. Some of the weapons were also featured like the foam gun, which creates walkways for players when used.

Other trailers of "Prey" tackle different elements inside the game, like the featuring of Talos I where its main setting is focused. On the other hand, a recently uploaded video entitled "What is Prey?" discusses several details about the game.

"Prey" will be under a time where United States of America President Kennedy survived his assassination and directed the country to push through with non-terrestrial studies through a joint program with Russia. The facility used is called Talos I where test experiments including humans are carried out.

"Prey" will be available to PC, Xbox One and PS4 in 2017. For the official gameplay trailer of "Prey," check the video below:
