Sunderland has lost four of its last five games to remain in the English top flight's bottom three relegation area. They are one point ahead of 19th-place team Hull City and two points above cellar-dwellers Swansea City.

The Black Cats are coming off an embarrassing 1-4 loss to newly-promoted side Burnley on the road at the Turf Moor last Saturday, as per Daily Mail Online.

Burnley forward Andre Gray opened the scoring with a 31st-minute goal, giving the Clarets a 1-0 lead at the halftime break. Gray netted two more in the 51st and 53rd minutes to complete a hat-trick, giving the hosts a 3-0 advantage.

Austrian forward Ashley Barnes made it a 4-0 count with a successful penalty kick in the 67th minute before Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe put his team on the board with a goal in the 71st off a pass by teammate Adnan Januzaj.

Meanwhile, Liverpool extended its winning streak to four games as they nipped powerhouse squad Manchester City, 1-0, at the Anfield also last Saturday, the Telegraph reported.

Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum provided the winning goal of the match for head coach Jürgen Klopp's side right in the eighth minute, burying a shot from the center of the box off a feed from English midfielder Adam Lallana.

The win was also the Reds' fifth consecutive unbeaten performance as they remained in the second spot in the overall standings, six points behind current league leaders Chelsea.

Liverpool is three points ahead of third-running team Arsenal and four points above fourth and fifth-place teams Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in a tight Premier League table.
