Dell's newest addition to its line of PCs is a hybrid. The Latitude 5285 starts as a standalone tablet which could be converted to a PC using a clip-on keyboard for typing and padding. The catch about the newest variant is, it is almost the same as the Microsoft Surface Pro, except for one thing.
Similar to the Surface Pro, it has a screen size of 12.3 inches with a 3:2 aspect ratio, The Verge has learned. It also supports 1 TB of storage with up to 16 GB RAM of computing power. Just like Microsoft's tablet, the Latitude also supports Intel's line of Core i processors, which are now with its seventh generation release.
Though the two devices may be exactly similar with each other, the Latitude has a weaker display resolution. With only 1080p display specification, Dell's newest PC is behind Microsoft's trend-setter which boasts 2736 x 1824 display resolution on its Surface Pro 4. The lower resolution was decided by the American company to give way for a longer battery life.
However, the publication noted this may not be a big deal for some consumers since the American tech-giant will be offering these devices to businesses first. Computers with high resolution display are not a requirement for majority of the commerce and trade sector, so this would not be much of a problem. In fact, the newest Latitude could cater some consumer preferences other PCs cannot offer.
Other features like regular USB, which is a 3.0, and USB-C ports are also available with the Latitude 5285. An LTE option is also present as well as a fingerprint sensor, a smart card reader and a microsim slot, CNet reported. Though Dell has been offering the Latitude variant in the previous years, it was included with a larger keyboard attachment and a bulkier kickstand compared to a sleeker offering in the upcoming version.
The Latitude 5285 will be available in the United States by Feb. 28 with an introductory price of $899, while its keyboard cover is expected to be sold separately. To get more details about the Dell's newest PC, watch the video below.
