The new event for the long-running RPG "World of Warcraft" gives players a chance to pit themselves against new bosses. These "Ogrewatch" bosses sport similar names and appearances as the characters from "Overwatch."
According to Game Rant, the latest patch 7.15 reveals more details about the new Brawler's Guild bosses. The new game mode with the patch allows "World of Warcraft" players to fight against "Overwatch"-like characters with semblances so close it would be considered copyright infringement if Blizzard did not own the franchise as well.
The information for the latest patch come from the public test realms of the game as well as patch datamining, which reveals the return of the Brawler's Guild feature. While the "WoW" and "Overwatch" franchise also meet in the Blizard MOBA game "Heroes of the Storm," the new game mode allows players to fight certain bosses when their rank is high enough.
Basically, once the players participating the Brawler's Guild event get to Rank 6, the three bosses will start looking familiar once their abilities are unleashed. These three bosses, Hudson, Dupree and Stuffshrew are references to their "Overwatch" counterparts, Winston, McCree and Junkrat, respectively.
Hudson has the Barrier Projector and Jump Pack abilities, with a Tesla cannon as a primary attack. Dupree can cast High Noon, just like his Cowboy counterpart. Lastly, Stuffshrew can cast Maniacal Laugh, and he has bombs that can certainly annoy players.
Additionally, according to PC Games N, there are four other "Overwatch" character parodies that will be released soon, if the datamined information is to be believed. Blinker, Boarguy, Render and Steingardt are parodies of Tracer, Roadhog, Reaper and Reinhardt, respectively. However, they have yet to appear during testing, so there is nothing known about their abilities.
Regardless, Blizzard has a long-standing tradition of referencing characters from other games and pop culture in general. However, it is unusual for them to poke fun at their own games every once in a while.
