Samsung has announced 2017 edition of Galaxy A5 smartphone with couple of new features. It has arrived to replace Galaxy A5 (2016). Here is a comparison between Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A5 (2016) on the basis of their specifications, features and price:

Design and Display

The Galaxy A5 (2017) has arrived with a IP68 certified water and dust resistant metallic chassis. It measures 146.1 x 71.4 x 7.9 mm and it weighs 169 grams.

The Galaxy A5 (2016) has a metal and glass combination body that measures 144.8 x 71 x 7.3 mm and it weighs 155 grams. The original Galaxy A5 comes with an aluminum unibody with dimensions 139.3 x 69.7 x 6.7 mm and it weighs 123 grams.

The Galaxy A5 (2015) has a 5-inch HD display whereas the Galaxy A5 (2016) and A7 (2017) smartphones are fitted with 5.2-inch screens. Also, the two smartphones carry support for full HD display. The Galaxy A7 (2017) comes with Always-on Display feature that is available on Galaxy S7 flagship smartphone.

Chipset, RAM and Storage

The Snapdragon 410 chipset drives the original Galaxy A5 with 2 GB of RAM. It comes with a native storage of 16 GB and an external storage support of up to 64 GB.

The Galaxy A5 (2016) was launched in two chipset variants of Snapdragon 615 and Exynos 7580 for varied markets. The SoC is coupled with 2 GB of RAM. The internal storage of the device is 16 GB and it supports up to 256 GB of microSD card.

The Galaxy A5 (2017) is driven by Exynos 7880 chipset along with 3 GB of RAM. The native storage of the device is 32 GB and it also supports up to 256 GB of microSD card in its external storage slot.

Camera and Software

There is a 13-megapixel f/2.0 rear camera is enabled with LED flash on the original Galaxy A5 and it is equipped with 5-megapixel f/2.2 selfie shooter. It was launched with Android KitKat OS and it is currently running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

The Galaxy A5 (2016) has an OIS and LED enabled 13-megapixel f/1.9 rear shooter. It has a 5-megapixel f/1.9 selfie camera. It arrived with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS preinstalled and it is expected to receive Android Nougat update.

The front and rear sides of Galaxy A7 (2017) feature 16-megapixel f/1.9 cameras. It has also arrived with Android 6.0 Marshmallow O, but it will be soon upgraded to Android Nougat OS.

Battery and Other Features

The Galaxy A5 (2017) features a USB Type-C port whereas the predecessor models have microUSB 2.0 port. The Galaxy A5 (2017) and (2016) smartphones are equipped with fingerprint scanners whereas the feature is absent on the original model.

The Galaxy A5 (2015) has a 2,300 mAh battery and its successor has 2,900 mAh battery with fast charging support. The Galaxy A5 (2017) is equipped with a 3,000 mAh battery with fast charging support.
