Following a lengthy hiatus, "Sherlock" Season 4 premiered on Jan. 1, featuring the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as the notorious Sherlock Holmes. Titled "The Six Thatchers," the premiere episode started with a bang and ended with a major shocker.

A few days before the next episode debuts, the show's creators talked a bit about what fans should look forward to this season. In an interview with TV Line, "Sherlock" co-creator Mark Gatiss talked about the Season 4 finale and Culverton Smith, the new villain to be introduced in episode 2.

Gatiss teased that the third and final episode, titled "The Final Problem," would be the most thrilling episode yet. "There is quite a lot of action. Episode 3 is probably more action-packed than we've done for a long time, if ever. Definitely more fighting," he said.

Talking about Culverton Smith, the villainous media mogul played by Toby Smith, Gatiss said fans should expect him to be truly nauseating. The show creator said the new baddie is a very 21-st century kind of villain and one of the scariest characters they had ever done.

In episode 2 titled "The Lying Detective," Sherlock will face the powerful and cunning Culverton Smith for the first time. The official synopsis for the episode reveals that the new villain keeps a very dark secret and is going to be Sherlock's most disturbing enemy in his entire career.

Meanwhile, the current season of "Sherlock" has been somewhat controversial with the revelation that Mary Watson was actually an assassin being tracked down by a hit group, according to Independent. Recently, actress Amanda Abington reportedly fired up the fandom even more after posting on Twitter an image of herself donning a red wig, since the wig was pretty much like the hair of the mysterious woman that John Watson was shown having an affair with. Fans have yet to know if Mary will be featured in the next episode as a flashback for John, or if Abington's post was nothing more than a misleading tweet.

"Sherlock" Season 4 features Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes, Martin Freeman as John Watson, Rupert Graves as Inspector Lestrade, Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson, Amanda Abington as Mary Watson, Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper and Toby Jones as Culverton Smith.

"Sherlock" Season 4, episode 2 is set to air on Jan. 8 on BBC. This will be followed by the season finale on Jan. 15.
