The official synopsis for the midseason premiere episode of "Legends of Tomorrow," titled "Raiders of the Lost Art," centers on a young George Lucas to be portrayed by "Grimm" actor Matt Angel, who drops out of film school and finds his life completely changed thereafter. The episode will reveal much of his role in the mythology of the series.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Marc Guggenheim teased that the episode would be a major turning point for the superhero series. He revealed that because of circumstances, the time aberration in episode 209 is George Lucas leaves film school.

"As a result, he never makes 'Star Wars' or 'Raiders of the Lost Ark.' As a result, Ray, who became an engineer because of 'Star Wars,' and Nate, who became a historian because of 'Raiders,' slowly start to lose their brilliance, because those things that inspired them to become who they are didn't exist," he explained. Apparently, Nate and Ray pursued their chosen professions due to inspiration from "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars."

Guggenheim went on to say that the upcoming episode would probably be the craziest and most ambitious one just yet, with him and co-executive producer Greg Berlanti laughing out loud while watching a cut of it. He also revealed that "Legends of Tomorrow" had found a new gear in terms of how madcap it could be with this episode, even describing its story as "Flowers for Algernon with Ray and Nate."

The synopsis for the winter premiere on Comicbook reveals that the episode is set in 1967, when Damien Darhk and Malcolm Merlyn attempt to get hold of Rip Hunter and create an aberration huge enough to catch the attention of the Legends. Unfortunately, the team arrives only to find out that Rip, a graduate film student, no longer has memories of his past.

As the Legends try to convince him of who he really was before, they discover that Rip actually possesses an exceptionally powerful artifact called the "Spear of Destiny," which the Legion of Doom wants to take. Ray and Nate realize how the aberration has made it difficult for them to help the team. Meanwhile, Rory asks Stein for some help and tells him to not tell the team anything about it.

Directed by Dermott Downs and written by Keto Shimizu and Chris Fedak, "Raiders of the Lost Art" airs on Jan. 24 on The CW.
