Burnley has been inconsistent in their last six matches with an even three wins and three losses during the said time span. The team is now in the 12th spot of the English top flight table, eight points above the bottom three relegation area and only one point behind Southampton.

The Clarets were nipped by powerhouse squad Manchester City, 1-2, on the road at the Etihad Stadium in their most recent match on Jan. 2, as per the Mirror.

An early red card was given to City midfielder Fernandinho in the 32nd minute with an illegal tackle on Johann Berg Gudmundsson, giving the visitors a one-man advantage for the rest of the contest.

However, it was still the Citizens who hit the first two goals of the game with shots from Gael Clichy and Sergio Agüero in the 58th and 62nd minutes respectively.

Head coach Sean Dyche's squad was able to trim the gap to one point in the 70th minute courtesy of a goal by vice-captain Ben Mee, but it was the closest Burnley could come.

Meanwhile, Southampton is reeling with a three-game losing slide. In their last game on Jan. 2, the team was routed by Everton, 0-3, on the road at the Goodison Park, Goal reported.

Head coach Claude Puel's side was not able to respond with any goals against the Toffees' onslaught. It was goalless almost the whole game until Enner Valencia, Leighton Baines, and Romelu Lukaku netted one goal each in the final 17 minutes of the match to hand the Saints their eighth defeat of the season.

With the loss, Southampton remained in the 10th place in the overall standings, a long 17 points below the Europa League qualifying berth for next season currently held by Arsenal.
