"Constantine" may have been cancelled on NBC after just one season but the character is still finding some success after the move to The CW network. Further emphasizing his continued popularity, the CW has announced that a "Constantine" animated series will launch soon on CW Seed.

Actor Matt Ryan will be reprising the role of John Constantine, a magician and master of the dark arts. Ryan previously portrayed the character in the NBC series and reprised the role for one episode of "Arrow." He voices the character in the upcoming animated film, "Justice League Dark."

CW Seed is already home to several successful animated shorts like "Vixen" and "Freedom Fighters: The Ray." It is still uncertain if these other animated shows may crossover with an episode of "Constantine" similar to how the live-actions shows, such as "Arrow" and "The Flash," also crossover from time to time.

"They're all somewhat connected now to the Arrowverse for our purposes. We look at CW Seed as an extension," IGN quoted CW President of Television Mark Pedowitz. "It's great to have Constantine. It's a great message to everybody that 'come to CW Seed and don't be bored.'"

Producer Greg Berlanti also explained that the characters from the NBC live-action show may appear in the series. Both Berlanti and Pedowitz also knocked down any rumors that a live-action continuation of the NBC show was in the works but did not rule out launching one on the CW in the future.

It would not be the first time a show started on one network and then continued on another. "Supergirl" first launched on CBS but after its first season the show was moved to the CW, making it easier to create crossovers with "The Flash," "Arrow" and "Legends of Tomorrow."

No further details for the animated "Constantine" series were given. However, since "Vixen" and "The Ray" are both roughly half a dozen episodes per season, with each season running 10 minutes, it is expected that "Constantine" will follow the same format, Collider reported.

As noted, this is not the first time audiences will get to see Constantine in animated form. The trailer for "Justice League Dark," in which Constantine plays a pivotal role, can be viewed below:
