Following the breakout success of the first "Deadpool" movie, fans are all looking forward to its sequel. While there is no official release date yet for "Deadpool 2," actor Ryan Reynolds recently revealed that the creative team is taking its time to get everything right before it jumps into production.
The film previously hit a snag in its pre-production allegedly due to financial and creative woes, which resulted in director Tim Miller abandoning the project. Fortunately, "John Wick" co-director David Leitch came onboard to take Miller's place and helm the film.
As of this writing, all fans know is that "Deadpool 2" is gearing up for production, but when it will kick off remains unclear. Recently, Reynolds spoke to MTV News and revealed that they had not yet started filming, but creative-wise, things are already on lock.
"We're still working on it. We're not going to start until we're ready. Everything feels great. Everybody is seamlessly locked into the situation. It's been really amazing," he said. The actor also confirmed that the creative team had already decided to cast the character of Cable in the upcoming film.
According to Reynolds, "Deadpool 2" is still looking for an actor to play Cable in the upcoming film. Before the film changed directors, early rumors of potential candidates for the role surfaced, including Stephen Lang and "Bloodline" actor Kyle Chandler.
It looks like the previously shaky boat has finally steadied for the "Deadpool 2" cast and crew, and everyone is already gearing up to shoot with the new director. Reynolds maintains that the sequel will keep with the modest production of the original film.
"Deadpool 2" will feature a host of fan-favorite characters, including mutant mercenary Domino and time-traveling mutant savior Cable. The character became most known in the popular comic book series "Cable & Deadpool."
Meanwhile, Reynolds told in his interview with Variety that he is open to the idea of Wade Wilson winding up with a guy on-screen, considering the character's distinction as Marvel's first pansexual hero. In February last year, the actor made similar comments to his interview with the publication, stating that he could "break any boundary" as Deadpool.
