Nokia returns to the smartphone scene with five new Android-powered devices expected in 2017. The Nokia E1 is one of the five new variants from the Finnish brand, the entry-level piece whose specs leaked out recently.

HMD Global will take over managing the Nokia brand as they try to set a new standard when it comes to design, material quality and manufacturing to rebuild a true Nokia experience. Aside from the Nokia E1, the company revealed the Nokia 6 which will be available only in China through JD.com according to an HMD Global press release.

There are more to expect from HMD Global of course and there are at least two more brands out in the open. Leaked specs of the Nokia E1 include seeing the Android-powered device sporting a 5.2- or 5.3- 720p display that will be backed by a 1.4 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 425 CPU with Adren0 308 and 2 GB of RAM according to Nokia Power User.

The Nokia E1 will come with 16 GB internal storage with no official word for now on provisions for an external slot. The entry-level device will also feature a 13 MP main camera, a 5 MP front-facing shooter.

Aside from the Nokia 6 and Nokia E1, the Nokia D1 is another phone mentioned to be coming out in 2017.Among the specs of the Nokia D1 include a handset sporting a 5- or 5.5-inch 1080p display, powered by a 1.4 GHz Snapdragon 430 SoC, 2 or 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, a 13 or 16 MP main camera, and an 8 MP front-facing shooter.

The new Nokia brands are expected to come out with Android 7.0 Nougat installed with the revived batch of smartphones touted to emerge at the Mobile World Congress 2017 this February.

Based on the specs of the three Nokia handsets, HMD Global seems bent on establishing its niche in the mid-range segment. The Nokia 6 is a testament to that with HMD Global giving local brands like Xiaomi some competition.

The regions of availability for the Nokia D1 and E1 have yet to be known as of this writing. HMD Global is likely focusing on the feasible regions to cater to before looking at the bigger global picture.
