As fans inch close to the big premiere of Netfix and Marvel's "The Defenders," new details about the superhero series are beginning to pop. Here is a breakdown of everything you need to know about "The Defenders" Season 1.
How will "The Defenders" start?
The show will pick up from where the individual shows left off. For starters, Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock/Daredevil is still reeling from the death of Elektra in "Daredevil" Season 3. Matt feels responsible for her ex-lover's death.
"It's almost like quitting an addiction in the hope that it will get easier. He's perhaps a little bit lost, and the best he can do for now is to not engage in his vigilante activities," Cox told Entertainment Weekly about his character.
Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, on the other hand, is struggling with his new found popularity as an in-demand detective. Following Kilgrave's death, Jessica gets a lot of people knocking on her door asking for her help, but she is a bit reluctant about her new success.
Luke Cage is still in prison, although not for long.
How action-packed is the show?
Showrunner Marco Ramirez revealed that "Sons of Anarchy" inspired the flow of "The Defenders."
"That show really tended to run and gun, and you picked up with adrenaline every episode and ended with adrenaline, so to me, that feels like what we want to do with these eight [episodes of 'The Defenders,']" Ramirez said.
Are there other characters involved?
One of the photos released for "The Defenders" show Jessica Jones having coffee with Trish Walker. This, perhaps, is an indicator that a lot of the characters in the Marvel shows on Netflix will also appear in "The Defenders."
Rosario Dawson Claire Temple, who appeared in "Daredevil" and "Luke Cage," will also be back in "The Defenders." Mike Colton also teased that Luke and Claire's romance will continue to bloom, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Who's the villain?
Sigourney Weaver is playing a villain named Alexandra. Not much about the character and her motive was revealed, except that the character is "a very powerful force in New York City."
"She's everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous," Ramirez teased.
