Arc System Works has released new details regarding the upcoming "Double Dragon IV" for PS4 and Steam. These details include more insight regarding the game's plot, playable characters and available game modes.
"Double Dragon IV" will take place following the events of "Double Dragon II: The Revenge," the official site reveals. This is because the English port of "Double Dragon III: The Rosetta Stone " shifts it as a sequel to the first but a prequel to the second title.
Following this timeline, "Double Dragon IV" will no longer feature Marian, Billy's girlfriend. The character was kidnapped in the first and third game but was murdered in the second game. However, in the original Japanese release, Marian was never mentioned in the third game.
Game modes include a traditional story campaign, which can be played with one player or in co-op. A dual mode has been confirmed but only a few characters will be available until the others are unlocked in Story Mode. There is also a Tower Mode in which there are no continues.
Both Billy and Jimmy Lee are confirmed as the main playable characters but new characters will be unlocked by advancing in the Tower Mode. Several of these include the characters Williams and Roper. A mysterious fan-favorite character is also teased.
PS4 players will also get to take advantage of the PS4 Share Play feature, Dual Shockers reported. This will allow Playstation Plus subscribers to play the game's co-op even if only one person has purchased the game.
This feature is only active for an hour. When the allotted time is over, the visiting player will automatically be logged out of the game. The host will be able to continue the campaign on his or her own.
"Double Dragon IV" releases this Jan. 30. No official price has yet been announced. The teaser trailer can be viewed below.
