"The Originals" Season 4 will soon introduce a love interest for Freya (Riley Voelkel), but it does not necessarily mean they will have a good relationship.
While speaking with TV Line, executive producer Michael Narducci revealed that Freya's new relationship will set the stage for an emotional struggle between the two characters.
"Freya will finally get a new love interest, setting the stage for an emotional struggle which opens up a whole new dimension to the character," he said.
Meanwhile, other than Freya's love life, Rebekah (Claire Holt) is also expected to return in the second half of "The Originals" Season 4. In Season 3, the character reunited with Marcel, but their storyline did not have a positive ending.
According to Narducci, Holt has signed on to return "for about half the season. Rebekah has an incredible journey to go," he said.
As of late, the fate of "The Originals" Season 5 still remains to be unknown. The CW previously announced which shows will be renewed for 2017 and 2018, and "The Originals" did not make the cut. Narducci explained that this does not mean the series will be cancelled.
"The Originals" Season 4 has not premiered yet so the network still has to see if it will do well in terms of viewership and ratings. If it does, then there is still hope for the Joseph Morgan starrer.
In other news, Narducci will no longer act as executive producer for "The Originals" Season 4. The job has been handed over to "The Vampire Diaries" exec Julie Plec.
While speaking with TV Line, Plec revealed that Narducci was given an offer at ABC Studios that he could not pass up. "He got an opportunity that he could not pass up. He has been a brilliant partner and friend and I am going to miss him desperately," Plec said.
Narducci and Plec have worked together for several years. In the second season of "The Vampire Diaries," the former acted as executive story editor. In Season 3, he was upped to co-producer status. He has also worked as the executive producer of "The Originals" since Season 2.
"The Originals" Season 4 will premiere on The CW on March 17.
