"Resident Evil 7" was thought to be beatable within 10 hours when it was first released. However, a speedrunner was able to waltz through the game and finished it in less than two hours instead.
In a video posted in Twitch by the speedrunner Stirliing, it can be seen that the player does not waste much time, sprinting through the areas meant to be explored more leisurely. He started the game using the New Game Plus mode, which gives him access to the Albert-01 Pistol as well as the knowledge of the Baker Mansion's layout.
According to Game Rant, the record was made possible due to the Albert-01 Pistol, as it can kill enemies fast, even Jack Baker. Also, the strategy employed by the speedrunner is that he will skip any unnecessary elements of the game, such as reading documents or puzzle-solving.
Regardless, Stirliing still holds the world record for the fastest speedrun for "Resident Evil 7" at 1:15:02. It is expected for the record to be bested soon, as a lot of players are still getting used to the game, which means that there is room for them to refine their strategies even further and allow for an even faster completion time in the future.
In other news, Capcom had been keeping track of the global stats of the game. According to the official "Resident Evil 7" website, over 900,000 players were able to rack up around 674 years-worth of game time, covering about 15 million kilometers -almost close to traveling the Earth's circumference a thousand times.
The stat tracker connects to the players' accounts, allowing it to track their progress in the story. This way, it will hide some information from players to avoid spoilers, only unlocking when certain sections of the game were completed.
