As "Vikings" Season 4 episode 20 finale approaches, fans are wondering about the return of the historical drama for Season 5 that is expected to see the aftermath of Vikings battle with the army of Wessex and King Harald in Kattegat. At the same time, it will see Jonathan Rhys Meyers' character play an important role. Here are a few spoilers revealing what to expect from the upcoming season. History channel officially announced the renewal of "Vikings" for Season 5 in March 2016. According to Deadline, the network ordered a 20-episode fifth season. It will reportedly be premiering in 2017.

Meanwhile, fans can expect to see what happens after the great battle between Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and Great Viking Army. In addition, a Jonathan Rhys Meyers' character will make his first appearance in Season 4 finale, setting the foundation for a larger role in in "Vikings" Season 5. Meyers will portray a warrior bishop called Heahmund from Wessex.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Vikings" showrunner Michael Hirst revealed the details about Meyers' character and his role in the history. Hirst revealed that warrior bishops were antecedents of Knights Templar. They held priestly status and at the same time fought in the battlefield. Heahmund was one of the prominent warrior bishops in the history of Wessex and he will stand up against Ivar The Boneless.

His life is reportedly dedicated to "deeply passionate commitments." And Hirst describes him as a "wild card."

"He's a passionate guy, drawn towards women. He sins, and then when he sins, he punishes himself," Hirst said about Meyers' character.

Also, "Vikings" Season 5 will feature the return of Rollo. Actor Clive Standen, who plays to role of the first Duke of Normandy, confirmed it to The Wrap. The actor revealed that he has already filmed some episodes for the upcoming season. However, he will remain absent while Lothbrok brothers avenge Ragnar's death in the finale. As mentioned by the actor, Rollo has gone back to France and will be facing Princess Gisla.

The network is yet to officially announce "Vikings" Season 5 episode 1 airdate. Fans will have to wait a bit longer before the release date is revealed. "Vikings" Season 4 finale airs Feb. 1 at 9:00 pm on History. Stay tuned for more updates.
