Activision Blizzard's animated TV series "Skylanders Academy" gets renewed for Season 3 on Netflix ahead of the Season 2 debut. It is the first television series developed and produced by the film studio.
According to Deadline, the animated comedy "Skylanders Academy" has been picked up for Season 3 as the Season 2 will debut later this year. It was announced alongside a robust cinematic universe based on "Call of Duty." It has introduced new people to the franchise, including "Supernatural" actress Felicia Day joining the cast in this season.
Day will be voicing the role of a new cadet Cynder at the "Skylanders Academy" with a mysterious past, IGN reported. Additional Season 2 cast members include "The Lovely Bones" actress Susan Sarandon (Golden Queen), "The House of Yes" actress Parker Posey (undisclosed role), "Billions" actor James Hetfield (undisclosed role), "Home Alone" actress Catherine O'Hara (Kaossandra), "Henchmen" actor Bobcat Goldthwait (Pop Fizz), "The Three Stooges" actor Chris Diamantopoulos (Master Eon), "Transformers: Rescue Bots" actor Jonny Rees (Jet-Vac), "Dumb & Dumber" actor Harland Williams (undisclosed role), and "The Angry Beavers" actor Richard Horvitz (undisclosed role).
"Skylanders Academy" premiered in fall 2016. Season 1 is currently available on Netflix, starring "Drag Me to Hell" actor Justin Long, "Phineas and Ferb" actress Ashley Tisdale, "Wiseguy" actor Jonathan Banks, "Dirty Work" actor Norm Macdonald, "Tomb Raider" actor Daniel Wu, and "Minecraft" actor Daniel Middleton. In Season 2, Long returns as Spyro, Tisdale as Stealth Elf, Middleton as C Four, Banks as Eruptor, Wu as King Pen, and Macdonald as Glumshanks.
Co-presidents van Dyk and Stacey Sher of Activision Blizzard Studios launched the studio last year to create the original content based on the company's extensive library of intellectual properties "Skylanders Academy." They had the first production together in the series and executive produce with the studio's Chief Executive Officer Bobby Kotick. The studio is developing internally a number of other TV projects, both live-actions and animated.
"Skylanders Academy" is based on Activision Blizzard's $3.5 billion Skylanders game franchise. The latest game was "Skylanders Imaginators." It was unveiled on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U last fall and will come to Nintendo Switch next month.
The production of "Skylanders Academy" Season 3 will begin in this month for a premiere expected in 2018.
