Watford captain Troy Deeney admits that he might be tempted to move to China should he receive a good offer.
Willing If the Offer Is Good
Deeney made the admission during an interview, TalkSPORT reported. According to the 28-year-old striker, he has his family to consider and, thus, would be willing to grab the opportunity should it be presented to him.
Deeney's teammate, striker Odion Ighalo, earlier made the move to Chinese football club Changchun Yatai in January, right on the deadline for transfers. The Nigerian was offered 27 million pounds.
When asked about the transfer, Deeney said that he was fine with it. "Anyone who does it won't be getting any hard feelings from me--fair play to them."
He added that the move is probably the best decision that Ighalo can do for his own family.
Ighalo was only one of the many players who transferred from the European leagues to the Chinese Super League in response to huge offers. Brazilian forward Hulk was the biggest acquisition made by Chinese teams, with him moving to Shanghai SIPG for $60 million. He was later joined by countryman Oscar in SIPG for $63 million.
Data from governing body FIFA revealed that China is now the fifth largest-spending country in the international transfer scene.
New Role to Fill In
Meanwhile, Ighalo's move to China means that Deeney will have to do more for the Hornets. During the former's stay, the two formed an effective partnership. However, Deeney was optimistic that he will be able to manage.
Watford pulled off a surprise victory against major Premier League team Arsenal on Tuesday. Deeney remarked that they were able to get their opponent into the position they wanted and capitalized from there, handing Arsenal a loss on its home turf at The Emirates, The Daily Mail reported.
Deeney said that their victory was a great parting tribute to former Watford head Graham Taylor. Taylor passed away in January at the age of 72.
