"Chicago Fire" actor Steven R. McQueen returns as Jeremy Gilbert on the set of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. More familiar faces are coming back for the show's final hour.

According to Entertainment Weekly, McQueen recently posted a photo on Instagram showing a Mystic Falls Mystic Falls Medical Transport van in the background. He added a caption "Saying hi to some old friends." He played Jeremy from 2009 to 2015 in The CW's supernatural hit show.

In "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 finale, McQueen's character Jeremy was last seen when he returned to say goodbye to his beloved sister Elena before Nina Dobrev's departure in the series. Joining McQueen in Season 8 are other returning favorites including Dobrev (Elena Gilbert), "Lucifer" actress Kayla Ewell (Vicki Donovan), and "The Originals" actor Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood), Comic Book reported.

"iZombie" actor David Anders was the first addition to "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, who tweeted about his trip to Atlanta, has since posted a photo of his chair on set, and is expected to play Elena's birth father John Gilbert. He exited the series with his death, but he did a cameo appearance in Season 5 episode as Katherine Pierce neared death.

Jeremy's return seems to be tied into Elena's presumed resurrection from her magical coma. Jeremy was pretty close to Bonnie Bennett ("17 Again" actress Kat Graham), who just lost Lorenzo 'Enzo' St. John ("Mr. Sloane" actor Michael Malarkey) in the most recent episode. Bonnie's fate is also closely tied to Elena, so Bonnie and Jeremy might get reunited in the series finale.

Co-creator Kevin Williamson also made a return to help helm "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Cade ("Devious Maids" actor Wolé Parks) will also return to Mystic Falls with new assignments for Damon ("Lost" actor Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan Salvatore ("Fallen" actor Paul Wesley) that each lead to unthinkable consequences.

"Supergirl" actor Chris Wood will also make his return as Kai Parker in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. He first arrived on the show in Season 6 and is best known for being the villain who put Elena into the magical coma in which she currently rests.

"The Vampire Diaries" returns on Feb. 10 and airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. It is currently being filmed in Atlanta.
