The social media networking site Twitter has updated its policies to prevent the posting of revenge porn and stolen nude photos, according to PC World.
Twitter's policy states that users may not post intimate videos and photos without the subject's permission. Also, they may not publish other people's personal and confidential information such as Social Security numbers, street address and credit card numbers without their consent.
In addition, the online social networking service has updated its abusive behavior policy. Twitter users may not make threats of violence against people. These include threats against a group or an individual on the basis of disability, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, national origin and religion.
The company will hide the content the violating content from public view and lock the accounts of users posting it. Users will not be able to use the site unless they remove the content in question.
In February, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said in an interview with BuzzFeed that the company is working on new product updates that will make it difficult for abusers to harass others.
Twitter is the not the only company that is making serious efforts to ban stolen nude pictures and revenge porn. Last February, Reddit, a social networking and news website, made significant changes in its privacy policies. Reddit users are not allowed to post naked pictures and videos of people involved in sexual acts without their prior permission or knowledge, The New York Times reported.
The online message board also plans to make tutorials to teach users how to govern their sub-communities effectively to boost a positive environment.
