"Humans" is set to return for its second season, and AMC has just released a first look at the new season. The clip offers a glimpse of the many new characters who will be introduced in Season 2.

Season 2 will pick up three months after the events in the Season 1 finale. It can be recalled that in the previous season, Niska made off with the consciousness code so it won't be long before the other synths begin to regain their consciousness.

The premiere episode of the upcoming season will show exactly how the self-aware synths spread. The series will also reveal what it takes for the heroes and the newly awoken synths to survive.

In an exclusive interview with TV Guide, actress Gemma Chan, who plays Mia, revealed that viewers will get to see a different side to her character in the upcoming season. According to her, there's something about Mia that viewers have never seen before that will be shown in Season 2.  She said, "So what's gone is the gentle, caring Mia that's being pushed to one side and you see a much colder, steelier side to her. And she realizes that to survive, you have to be stronger."

Meanwhile, the new characters to be introduced in the upcoming season include an artificial intelligence scientist, a struggling café owner hired by Mia, and a menacing young billionaire from Silicon Valley. According to Yahoo News, however, it is Sonya Cassidy's character, Hester, who will take the center stage. In the series, he will be known as one of the most unique synths on the planet.

In the promo video, Hester tells Max and Leo that her malfunction is beyond repair. Max then tells her that someone has found its way into her consciousness that's why she is now capable of thinking and feeling like a human being. Max also pleads her to listen to her own kind since they are the only ones who can help her.

"Humans" Season 2 premieres on Feb. 13 on AMC. Watch the promo video here:
