The breakup of best friends WWE Universal champion Kevin Owens and United States champion Chris Jericho is inevitable. The latest WWE rumors have revealed that it could happen at the Fastlane PPV where Owens defends his title against Bill Goldberg.

Owens and Jericho are two of the best characters on Raw this past year and they continue to have a good relationship after a difficult turbulence to end 2016. However, all good things need to come to an end and it might happen at Fastlane on March 5 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

According to Cageside Seats, Owens is scheduled to lose the WWE Universal championship to Goldberg at Fastlane. WWE rumors from the past couple of weeks have implied that Vince McMahon wants Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania to be for the Universal title.

It's not really a bad idea because Owens has not been booked as the strongest champion. The value of the title is not at an all-time high because of how the creative team has screwed over "The Prizefighter." Nevertheless, fans are not going to be disappointed with KO vs. Y2J at WrestleMania 33.

The friendship of the two great Canadian superstars started getting some cracks towards the end of 2016. Owens bad-mouthed Jericho which led to a possible feud between the two but the WWE surprisingly did not pull the trigger just yet.

The two reconciled to start the year but they are now heading to their much-anticipated feud. As recapped by WWE.com, Goldberg accepted the challenge of Lesnar at WrestleMania 33. He then challenged Owens at Fastlane for the Universal championship.

Owens looked like he was not going to accept the challenge but Jericho butted in and accepted it on behalf of his best friend. The booking of their possible feud is going to be really easy since KO can blame Jericho if he loses the Universal title.

"The Prizefighter" can say that Jericho put him in a bad position by accepting Goldberg's challenge on his behalf. The WWE can also make it look like Y2J cost Owens his title by interfering in the match and accidentally hitting him or something.

It should be noted that these are just WWE rumors at the moment and should be taken with a grain of salt. Just watch Fastlane on March 5 on the WWE Network to know the official result of the match. Check out the video below to watch Jericho accept Goldberg's challenge on Owens' behalf.
