Subset Games have officially announced their follow-up game to the highly successful "FTL: Faster Than Light" which released in 2012. Titled "Into the Breach," the game will be a turn-based strategy game similar to "Final Fantasy Tactics" and the "Fire Emblem" series.

"Into the Breach" is set in a post-apocalyptic future where most of humanity has been wiped out by bug-like aliens known as the Vek, reveals the official site. The Vek also do not come from outer space but from deep within the Earth, a concept explored in the film "Pacific Rim."

The game will also feature roguelike elements such as permadeath. When the player fails the game resets but the player has the option of sending mechs back from the future, which is their previously failed playthrough of the game. This will add a sense of time-travel to the game's campaign.

Maps are also randomly generated, guaranteeing each playthrough is a different experience. The mechs can also be customized although the full extent of this feature has yet to be revealed. The "Front Mission" games, which were also turn-based strategy titles, also featured mech customization options.

Ben Prunty, who worked on the soundtrack for "FTL: Faster Than Light," will also work on the soundtrack for this game, Dual Shockers reported. A few soundtracks have been shared by Prunty on YouTube.

Writer Chris Avellone is working on building the game's lore and story. PowerUp Audio is also credited as the studio behind the rest of the game's sound department which includes sound effects and voice cues.

No release date has yet been announced. The game will release for PC, Max and Linux although not simultaneously. No word has yet been given regarding a possible console release. "FTL: Faster Than Light" did not see a release out of Steam which makes it unlikely "Into the Breach" will do differently.
