Police have received several leads as they hunt for a gunman who was responsible for shooting two police officers during a protest in Ferguson, Missouri on Wednesday.

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said that the detectives are working hard. "They will not rest until they get to the point where we have a conclusion to this investigation," he told the reporters on Friday in reference to NBC News.

Belmar added that both of the officers are expected to make a full recovery in due time. One officer was shot in the shoulder, and the other was shot in the face as they stood outside Ferguson police headquarters.

He said that it is still unknown whether a single gunman opened fire or if someone else was involved. Belmar said that several people who were questioned on Thursday are not suspects to the shooting incident.

"There aren't a lot of people I think that really saw exactly what happened," he said. Three or four gunfire were heard during the protest around midnight. Police said that a video of the incident showed protesters and police ducking for cover. Belmar said that the shots came from about 120 yards away from the headquarters, according to Yahoo! News.

The St. Louis Regional Crimestoppers have offered a$10,000 reward for any information leading to a shooter or shooters responsible for the incident.

The authorities have not released the names of the officers who were shot. Nonetheless, Belmar said that both are doing "remarkably well" when they visited in the hospital on Thursday. Both were released later that day, he told the reporters.

Belmar said: "We were maybe less than an inch away from a tragedy with both of these officers, I wouldn't want to roll those dice if it were me." Adding that he is rather thankful for the fact that both of the officers are going tobe able to fully recover.
