The Marvel Cinematic Universe is under pressure to release a female-led superhero movie. Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow is the first female superhero to appear in the MCU and fans have been asking for a "Black Widow" solo movie for so long. Marvel has previously stated that they are committed to making that happen, but the big question for now is when.

In an interview with Total Film Magazine (via Movie Web), Johansson shared her insights on the status of the "Black Widow" solo movie.

"I've talked to Kevin Feige about it. We're creatively really compatible. I think we both agree that the character is right for a standalone, it's just a case of timing at this point for both Marvel and myself," the actress said.

Johansson added that the MCU has a huge roster of superheroes and villains, and the next four years of the franchise have been planned ahead. If ever a plan to enact a "Black Widow" solo movie pops up, she would want to dedicate herself to "completely making it amazing" and making sure it would be "the best version that movie could possibly be."

Johansson shared the same sentiments as Feige that having Marvel movies with female leads all boils down to timing. "I think you're right about that, and I think it comes down to timing, which is what I've sort of always said, and it comes down to us being able to tell the right story," Feige told CBR. Feige is positive that it can be done and he hopes to make it happen sooner than later.

Beating Johansson as the first female superhero to appear in her standalone film is Brie Larson, who will portray Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers in "Avengers: Infinity War" in 2018 and then her own "Captain Marvel" movie in 2019.

Meanwhile, Johansson will reprise her role as Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff in "Avengers: Infinity War." She will return alongside the core Avengers team consisting of Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner. New Avengers recruits Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany will also return.
