On Monday, a 44-year-old mother of four, Jennifer Petri, suffered a fatal fall from a 20-foot cliff at Coconino National Forest near Sedona, Arizona. The tragic accident occurred while Petri was hiking with a friend at her favorite spot in the park, known to locals as "The Bluffs."

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened around 4 p.m., when Petri plunged over the steep ledge, which is approximately 200 feet above West Clear Creek. Her friend reported that she was no longer visible after the fall. The USDA Forest Service describes the area as "steep," "deep," and "rocky," and cautions hikers that emergency services are distant from the gorge.

Rescuers faced difficulties in locating Petri due to the treacherous terrain. YCSO deputies had to use binoculars to find her at the base of the cliff just above the water's edge. Unfortunately, by the time they reached her, she had already passed away. Her body was airlifted out of the canyon.

The circumstances surrounding Petri's fall are still under investigation, and a spokesperson for the YCSO could not confirm to The Post whether foul play was a factor in the accident.

Danae Wolf, a family friend, told 12 News that Petri was an enthusiastic outdoors person who usually spent Sundays at the creek with her family. Describing Petri, Wolf said, "Jennifer, she's goofy, she's funny and adventurous. Had the most contagious smile." Wolf also praised her compassion and empathy, qualities she admired in Petri.

A well-loved server at Camp Verde Denny's, Jennifer Petri is survived by her husband and four sons. Tragically, one of her sons celebrated his 15th birthday just two days after her death. Wolf emphasized that Petri should be remembered for her compassion and as an amazing mother, stating, "She was the glue that held her family together."
