Climatologists have claimed that due to deteriorating climate conditions, the Gulf Stream is suffering terribly and its current flow system is slowing down more and more with each passing day with the North Atlantic currents no longer following the conventional current cycle and may stop completely.

Daily Science Journal reports that the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and its research team of senior scientists claim that this is happening due to the ever increasing rise in temperature due to global warming which in turn is melting the ice caps in Greenland; hence, changing the current flow system entirely.

This phenomenon is called "overturning circulation" and it is showing pre mature signs of slowing down. This phenomenon is also bound to affect the future climate of the entire Northern Europe, and not in a good way.

This is not the first time that something like this has come up as a warning sign for the world leaders to notice and do something about the highly alarming state of Mother Nature.

Scientists fear that if the ice caps in Greenland continue to melt at this rate, the water levels will rise at an alarming rate and affect the regions between Britain and New York majorly and disastrously.

The movie scene from the 2014 feature film "The Day After Tomorrow" has shown something like this only. In the movie, it shown that the ocean currents of the Atlantic Ocean slow down and the people of New York City find themselves in a sudden ice age. At that time, scientists had rubbished this scenario but are now very afraid to admit that it might actually become true, as per Vox.

Scientists say that nothing will happen "anytime soon", but they do fear that the Earth is losing its natural current flow all across the world.
