Indiana is preparing to declare an emergency outbreak on the account of the deadly disease of HIV, Fox News reported.
Scott County itself has accounted about 72 cases of HIV and other 7 people have been recently detected with the fatal disease.
Governor Mike Pence has reportedly said that he considering to issue a needle exchange program and to introduce a new drug exchange policy for Indiana. He has already declared a health emergency in the country and urges the country to be calm.
Now, what is the needle exchange program? It is a deal in which the countries can exchange the used needles and get new and fresh ones instead of them. This helps to maintain the health and hygiene of a country and saves the citizens from infections. Since the reported cases of HIV have doubled up in the last month, the country and the governor think that this exchange policy is a good idea.
It has also been noticed that most of the people who have come in the influence of this infection have got it mainly because they shared an infectious needle with a patient who was being treated for the disease with the drug Opana. This is creating a major havoc for now and needs to be curbed, doctors have said.
Furthermore, IV drug is currently being used to determine the type of infection in the affected patients, Huffington Post reported. Pence has also said that the cases are expected to rise in the coming days, as the outbreak is pretty serious. To spread awareness, the country has issued several hoardings and posters depicting how to be cautious with the disease and also, how to prevent it. Scott County is already taking numerous steps to spread awareness at god speed.
