The romantic comedy “Tuhao 520” or “Love Without Distance” is the newest film title that centers on the lives of China’s billionaires.

The film attempts to dissect before the audience via creatively crafted scenes the meaning of "tuhao," which is a famous Chinese expression describing rich people who lack some grace and elegance.

Aubrey Lam, the romantic comedy's director, said how the society has been misunderstanding this group of people.

"China has developed fast in the past three decades, thanks to the reform and opening-up policy. The booming economy has given us a bunch of billionaires," Lam explained.

The director added that these billionaires "have struggled to earn much respect and most of them are, in fact, pursuing true love and values."

Lam is known for films such as "The Truth About Beauty" and "A Decade of Love." The writer-cum-director also provided the script for the 2013 movie "American Dreams in China."

Meanwhile, award-winning Hong Kong actor and director Francis Ng will play the role of a mainland "tuhao" in the film. He is famous for the TVB series "Triumph in the Skies."

Echoing Lam's sentiment, he said: "Today's billionaires, who weren't raised in affluent families, have worked hard to become wealthy."

"It's fair to lead the life they want," Ng further remarked during a media event promoting the film in Beijing.

Ng also revealed that "Tuhao 520," which was shot in parts of Europe, would also show the billionaires' obsession with luxury such as hiring high-end cars and planes for personal use.

The movie is slated for mainland release on May 20. Renowned Hong Kong film director Peter Chan will serve as the film's artistic consultant.
