Sony brought the Spotify app to PlayStation 3 and 4 platforms with a limited time exclusivity deal.

After discontinuing their own music service, Sony partnered with one of the largest digital music distributors in the world. Spotify has over 30 million tracks available and is a popular choice among music lovers on desktop computers, smartphones and tablets.

The developers have created an all-new interface for the app so that it integrates seamlessly into the Playstation universe. As the add-on will not be available on the Xbox consoles soon, it is time for PS4 and PS3 owners to celebrate this coup by Sony, the Verge reported.

In order to login to Spotify app on Playstation consoles, users can use their existing credentials and membership. There is also an option to login with Facebook credentials or use the Spotify Connect feature from their smartphone or tablet devices.

New users can sign up for a premium account through their PSN account but the app also offers free ad-supported solution for starters. The user curated playlists, pick of the day, chartbusters and other interfaces are readily available which makes it a familiar affair.

An interesting addition is that using the Spotify app, players can listen to their favorite soundtracks while playing. The volume control is fully customizable so that ambient noise can be minimized. The feature comes in handy especially when a player logs in multiple hours in titles like "the Last of Us", "GTA 5" or the newly launched "Bloodborne", according to Stuff.

At the moment, the background music playback option is available only on the PS4 console while PS3 users may not be able to experience it, until an update is rolled out. Meanwhile, there is no word yet whether Sony will launch a PS Vita version.
